A couple of days ago I noticed an annoying sympathetic vibration coming off of one of the lamps attached to my workbench. I decided I would let it go away and try and ignore it. Today I realized it is precisely A-440! I used it to tune a guitar today and it was perfect! Now I want to patent it ![]() I am waiting for it to either go away or change frequency but I should advertise it on my website as a repair service "New York Guitar Repair has only guitar self tuning bench!" Anyone else have a weird shop story. This has been truly funny, my customers have been getting a kick out of it. Evan |

Nothing funny in my shop, except (on Mario's recommendation)I just bought a second hygrometer. Mario said have two, so one will tell on the other if it's telling a fib. Well... the old one is holding between 45 & 48% & the new one insists that we're at 55+... Are you allowed to say "CRAP" on this forum??? So, it's off to the local airport weather station tomorrow to check both against the real thing. I like the A-440 lamp story way better! |

Evan, Your local AC power must be at 55Hz instead of the 60Hz standard. 440Hz would be a multiple of 55Hz and this is manifesting itself in a "singing" light bulb filament at 440Hz - a harmonic of 55Hz. However, it's VERY unlikely that ConEd (or whoever) would be 5Hz low on the NYC power grid. So, nevermind I guess. Skip |
